DisasterReady is highlighting humanitarian organizations and individuals demonstrating effective ways to strengthen learning impact and engagement. This month, the spotlight is on LINGOs and its popular learning resource to help development professionals build their project management skills.

PMD Pro – Project Management for Development Professionals – is a toolkit and certification that provides project managers with the skills needed to deliver effective, transparent results to donors and communities. Developed by and for NGOs, PMD Pro is a global standard for project management that has reached over 10,000 development professionals in over 80 countries.

DisasterReady and LINGOs have partnered to offer seven self-directed online courses on the DisasterReady platform. Together, these courses can give you the project management training needed to prepare for certification in PMD Pro.

Why become certified in PMD Pro?

Project managers who have used PMD Pro report that their projects are increasingly on-time and on-budget, with improved donor reporting.

“I recommend PMD Pro because it really helps staff to understand where to focus their efforts. It also benefits their team, who can sometimes feel overwhelmed at the beginning of a project.” —Jennifer Overton, West Africa Regional Director, CRS

How do I become certified?

The seven courses at DisasterReady are a perfect place to start learning the fundamentals of PMD Pro. You can assess your readiness by taking the sample exam online. The final exam is also available online, which is available for a small fee on a sliding scale for local and national staff.

Where can I get more support?

There are additional resources to help you prepare.

LINGOs has authored the Self-Study site, which includes the Guide to PMD Pro (PDF), and a recommended study plan that is built around the online courses available from DisasterReady.

PM4NGOs manages the PMD Pro community on LinkedIn. This is a great place to head for answers to practical questions, or to discuss project challenges with other NGO project managers.

LINGOs also offers additional facilitated online courses in four languages.

“PMD Pro is the best thing to have happened to project management. It is the reason why kids in Zambia have clean water, why clinics are built on time, and why a poor farmer is able to harvest.” — Clement Chipokolo, World Vision International, Zambia.
